Urban archaeology: 20 years of neighbours, machinery and builders

Over the last twenty years, and as a result of Law 12/1998 for Historical Heritage and Regulations on Archaeological and Paleontological Interventions in the Balearic Islands, the number of archaeological interventions with ties to public and private construction projects has seen a sharp increase.

In Menorca, the historical information obtained from these discoveries is rarely made openly available to the general population, which does however suffer their consequences.

As a result, the Consell Insular de Menorca (island governing body), the Museum of Menorca and the Municipal Museum of Ciutadella believe it is necessary to convey to the community the importance of Preventative Archaeological Measures (PAMs) and the way in which these provide essential information for understanding our history. With this goal in mind, we are pleased to present this exhibition.
