The Comedy Theatre of Maó

An exploration of art, culture, and history through two paintings from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

The Museu de Menorca is hosting an exceptional conference-dialogue that offers the opportunity to discover two paintings of great significance for the history of theatre and music in Menorca during the eighteenth century.

Created between 1760 and 1761, during the period of French rule on the island, these works are being presented in Menorca for the first time. On loan from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the paintings provide a unique opportunity to explore a key moment in Menorcan cultural history. Through the complementary perspectives of three specialists, the works will be examined from cultural, artistic, and historical viewpoints.

The event will be led by Toni Arcas, Fernando Alcolea, and Josefina Salord, researchers and renowned specialists in Menorca’s cultural heritage.
